Western Australian youngster Eleisha Browne and Sydneysider Emily Scott have burst into senior national water polo team consideration. Browne (17), who hails from regional Geraldton and plays for UWA Torpedoes in the National Water Polo League, was one of the standout players at the recent national 18 years and under championships in Perth, Australia.

Browne attended the FINA World Junior Women´s Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia last August and was named to the tournament team in Perth. She will attend her first national camp on the Gold Coast next week. Centre back Scott (18), also a member of the national junior team to Russia, performed consistently at the world level and improved through the Institute Challenge in December, according to Stingers head coach Greg McFadden.

The camp is part of the Aussie Stingers´ preparation for defending their title at the Commonwealth Championships being staged in Goa, India on April 24-29. “It is very exciting that Eleisha Browne, who performed very well at the 18s nationals, and Emily Scott will be attending their first national team camp.

“We are keeping the squad small while also inviting some promising juniors who have performed well at the recent 18s championships and Institute Challenge (December) to help them gradually adjust to the expected demands of the senior programme,” McFadden said. Missing from the first camp of the year will be captain and dual Olympian Melissa Rippon because of work commitments and world championship player Rowena Webster through injury.

National squad: Zoe Arancini (Fremantle Marlins), Lea Barta (UNSW Killer Whales), Gemma Beadsworth (Fremantle), Isobel Bishop (Adelaide Jets), Alicia Brightwell (Sydney University Lions), Victoria Brown (Victorian Tigers), Eleisha Browne (UWA Torpedoes), Jemma Dessauvagie (Balmain Tigers), Bronwen Knox (KFC Breakers), Jane Moran (Brisbane Barracudas), Glencora Ralph (Fremantle), Sophie Ricketts (Adelaide), Elise Rossato (Victorian Tigers), Emily Scott (UNSW), Sophie Smith (KFC Breakers), Nanda Stolz (Brisbane), Kelsey Wakefield (Brisbane), Gaby Wikman (Sydney University), Emily Young (KFC Breakers), Nicola Zagame (Cronulla Sharks).
