Szolnok hold off Jug, Barceloneta-Eger tied

Just two more rounds are to be played and five teams have secured their spot at the Final Six tournament: Olympiacos, Pro Recco, Szolnok and Jug join hosts ZF-Eger. In group A Barceloneta and Primorje are the teams battling for the final place for 'Budapest 2016'. After round 8, played on Saturday, the composition of the groups became more visible. Olympiacos justified their position by again dominating Primorje, this time in Rijeka. Ioannis Fountoulis led the charge scoring 3 goals in a 4-10 outing. Also in group A Barceloneta and Eger drew level 6-6 in Barcelona thanks to a late equaliser by Norbert Hosnyanszky for the visitors. Also tied were Spandau and Jadran in the bottom half of group A. Mehdi Marzouki, who scored the penalty shot to send France to the 2016 Olympic Games in a shootout over the Netherlands just weeks ago, now came up big for his team Spandau scoring 4 goals including the equaliser with under a minute remaining.
In group B Pro Recco marched on beating OSC 7-2 in a solid performance at home. Dusko Pijetlovic led the scoring for the defending champions netting 3 shots. The top match-up in Szolnok saw the home team coming out as winners as Jug Dubrovnik were beaten 13-10 behind 4 goals from a vintage Norbert Madaras. On Saturday, April 30 the penultimate round in the preliminary stage will be played with already key match-ups for Primorje (away at Eger) and Barceloneta (at Jadran).
