For Italy that meant a tough encounter with Spain that was only decided by a winning goal from Michaël Bodegas in the game's final minute as the Italians came away with a 5-6 win. Hungary meanwhile defeated France 15-9 behind 4 goals from Marton Vamos. All semifinalists hit the water after celebrating the qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games the day before. The losers of these decisive quarterfinals were up first on Saturday with the Netherlands overcoming a 5-1 deficit against Germany to win 7-8.
