Italy strike back beating Hungary

The Hungarians got away with a 17-15 shootout win on day 1 but were surpassed by Italy on Tuesday in round 4 of the World League prelims. The Fabio Conti coached side struck back for a solid 10-7 win in which the home team proved too strong for the Magyars for 3 quarters. A balanced attack, led by Ariana Garibotti, Tania di Mario and Roberta Bianconi who each scored 2 goals, quickly got in control in the opening quarter and slowly walked away to a comfortable 10-5 score with one quarter remaining. Here Hungary cut the deficit by 2 goals but saw the outcome of the contest already being decided. Italy now take over 2nd place in group A behind unbeaten Netherlands who marched on beating France 8-12 in Lille. The home team stayed surprisingly close to the favourites throughout the match but had to let go in the final period.
In Hamburg a young German team, featuring 5 new names, fell to Russia who only lined up 11 players 10-22. Elvina Karimova earned top scoring honours scoring 4 goals. In that group B Spain and Greece will square off in their round 4 match-up next Tuesday in Sabadell.
