Gonzalo Echenique winner gets Primorje past Jug

Jug was off for a strong unbeaten run and led no doubts on their intentions this season after beating Primorje at home 13-7 in round 6 of the Regional league. Well, that unbeaten run was halted on Sunday in the 2nd of two clashes between the league title favourites. Thanks to a late goal by left-hander Gonzalo Echenique Primorje edged rivals Jug 6-5 in Rijeka to split the season series joining Jug on top of the standings, although the Dubrovnik based squad hold the better goal scoring difference. But Sunday's win was a booster and confirmed the title contention status of Jug is not to be taken for granted. Primorje got lifted by a strong 3rd period in which two unanswered goals had them in the driver's seat for the final 8 minutes. Jug tried and did came back as Marko Macan, Xavi Garcia and eventually Felipe Perrone (for the 5-5 equaliser) scored, before newcomer Echenique decided the contest with 53 seconds to play.
In other results Jadran kept hold of their good results in the league controlling Mladost 5-10 in Zagreb thanks to a balanced attack. Radnicki tries for a better 2nd season half and did so by beating Mornar 11-8 on Sunday. But as fellow contenders Vojvodina topped POSK 13-9 at home Radnicki's win doesn't mean too much for the standings, yet. But 6th place looks in sight for both Serbian squads.
