19 Feb Canada top China, favourites march on By: Tim Hartog National Teams, World League Thanks to a late goal by Emma Wright, her 4th of the game, Canada edged China 14-15 in the opener of day 3 of the World League Intercontinental tournament in Lewisville, Texas on Thursday. The Canadians reached their 2nd win of the tournament in a high-scoring contest where China got in front 3-2 in the opening quarter before Canada stormed back in the 2nd taking 3-6 and 5-8 leads. When Christina Robinson hit for 6-10 late in the 3rd period their victory seemed within reach but China wasn't done. At the hands of veteran Niu Guannan and Sun Yating the final quarter went on to become a close one with a resillient Canada squad only deciding the outcome 28 seconds before the end when Wright struck the winner. In the other results hosts USA marched on crushing Japan 2-19 with Maggie Steffens going for 4 goals, while Australia led Brazil no chance: 15-3. Isabel Bishop topped the scorers list with 3 strikes.
