Mornar, Brescia with narrow victories in Euro Cup semis first leg

The semifinals of the Euro Cup are far from done after both round 1 matches were played on Wednesday. Mornar held off Sintez Kazan at home 9-7 for a nice win but know that the return in Russia will be a tough one with 'just' 2 goals advantage. On Wednesday Ante Viskovic and Rino Buric led the Split based squad scoring 3 goals each.
Meanwhile in Italy title favourites AN Brescia needed a big comeback in the final period to overcome Szeged 9-8. Scoring thrice in the final term proved decisive as Brescia turned around a 6-8 deficit after 3 quarters into the narrow 9-8 victory. It means the teams are basically decide the series outcome next week in Hungary. Leading the scoring for the winners on Wednesday were Valerio Rizzo, left-hander Alessandro Nora and centre forward Nemenja Ubovic who each struck twice.
