Barceloneta escapes Mataro

In Spain the reigning champions Barceloneta kicked off the 2nd half of the season with a difficult match-up at and with Mataro Quadis. That team could prove to become one of the major outsiders, despite the fact that their ranking does not reflect that, yet, making life hard for the favourites on Saturday. In fact, the perhaps winning goals was up for grabs with a late counter attack and the score tied at 8-8. But the break-away was missed and Barceloneta, and Alberto Munarriz in particular, punished the home side for that scoring the winner moments later on man up. Serbia shooter Strahinja Rasovic was a force again scoring 5 goals. League top scorer Robin Lindhout added a team-high 3 to his total. Elsewhere Real Canoe benefited from the loss for Mataro by beating Terrassa 8-6 in another top match-up on display in the first round after the winter break. Usual suspects Victor Gutierrez (3 goals) and Alberto Barroso (2) were of major importance once more to the Madrid based squad.
In 3rd place now on the table are Barcelona who made no mistake away at Rubi going for the solid 6-12 win thanks to a superios 2nd quarter showing. Sabadell is still above them, comfortably in 2nd place after holding off Catalunya 10-13. Mediterrani took a firm grib on 8th place in the rankings beating last ranked Sant Feliu 7-15 with ease. Sant Andreu helped by dowining Navarra 7-5 at home behind 4 goals from Dutch international Jorn Winkelhorst.
