Olympic Qualification Tournaments draw on Saturday

FINA has announced the time and the venue for the draw of the Olympic Qualification Tournaments – as well as the participants of the men and women competitions. After the withdrawal of representatives of other continents, even Slovakia booked a place to Trieste among the men, while among the women today’s match between Germany and France will decide the last berth.

After the deadline passed for entering teams from the other continents, FINA announced the number of available spots at the Olympic Qualification Tournaments for the participants of the ongoing European Championships.

Europe will have 9 quotas for the men’s tourney and 6 for the women’s. This means that from these championships the team ranked 13th can also take part in the qualifications, while from the women’s field the 7th placed side are the last one who can join.

Today Slovakia, with a last-minute grasp win over Georgia, secured its place in the men’s event, while the last women's berth will go to the winner of the encounter between Germany and France.

The draw will take place on Saturday, at 21.00hrs in the Hotel Crowne Plaza Belgrade, where most of the teams are accommodated.

The women’s tournament will be staged in Gouda (NED) on 21-28 March, while the men will fight for Rio in Trieste (ITA) on 3-10 April.
