Mataro Quadis returns to winning ways

The top half of the table in the Spanish league got yet another turn in the midweek 13th round, played on Tuesday. Here Mataro Quadis went back to winning ways for 3 valuable points beating Mediterrani 10-7 while Sabadell mainainted their legitimate 2nd position and Terrassa took over 3rd following a 7-12 victory at Sant Andreu. In the bottom section Catalunya held off Rubi 11-8 to remain comfortable in 10th place now. But as part of the three most interesting matches of the round Sabadell gained a big away-victory topping fellow 2nd place contender Real Canoe 8-10 in Madrid. The visitors started off well and actually played a strong first half which propelled their scoring and proved decisive in a tough 2nd half although Sabadell held on for the win. Mataro Quadis overcame a 1-2 deficit at quarter time and got to the leading side of the score in the 3rd period hosting Mediterrani. That turnaround marked the decision as the home team gotout to a 3-goal advantage and posted a welcome 10-7 win. Terrassa did the same when beating Sant Andreu in a warm-up duel for the women's World League match which was next at Sant Andreu on Tuesday. A big 2nd half showing by the visitors turned around the contest and paved the way for a seemingly comfortable but hard-fought 7-12 win for Terrassa.
Defending champions Barceloneta meanwhile simply marched on to maintain their leading position in the league. Navarra could do no harm, scored just twice in a 17-2 blowout loss. Albert Español and Francisco Fernandez led all scorers with 3 each.
