© Johan Opperman 08 Dec Spain controls Russia to take lead in group B By: Tim Hartog National Teams, World League Thanks to a nice 16-9 victory over main rivals Russia it is Spain who now leads group B of the FINA women's World League prelims. The defending European champions controlled Russia right from the start in Barcelona quickly jumping out to a 4-1 lead at quarter time. Led by Anna Espar (pictured), who was on fire and scored 5 goals, Spain held on to the lead despite Russia getting more involved in the 2nd session. The important win for the home team though was never in doubt as the Spanish women even walked away in the third period before playing out the contest in the final minutes. For Spain Roser Tarragó, captain Jennifer Parea and lefty Judith Forca added 2 goals each to the triumph. Anna Lisunova top scored the Russian side with 3 hits. Also in group B Greece rolled past Germany 21-1 at home in Athens to remain in 3rd place but close to 2nd seed Russia. In Troyes, France it was Hungary who did concede 9 goals from home side France but still recorded a 9-18 victory to claim 2nd place in group A. Dóra Czigány and Rita Keszthelyi led the Magyars with 4 goals apiece.
