Sant Andreu tops Barcelona

The midsection of the table in the Spanish league is in the midst of an interesting battle. Match-ups between either of the teams are close and results hard to predict. Winners of this weekend, the 12th round, were Sant Andreu who held off a late charge by Barcelona to beat the home team 9-10. Therewith the team moved into a tie with 7th-ranked Mediterrani who fell to Barceloneta 9-12 on Saturday. Mataro failed to benefit from Barcelona's loss as they lost an anticipated match-up with fellow 4th place contenders Terrassa 10-7 which means Terrassa now leads the pack in the standings.
Elsewhere Navarra continued their persuit of 8th place as Catalunya was edged 7-6 in a close contest in Pamplona. The top 3 teams in Spain made no mistakes. Real Canoe dominated Rubi 4-13, led one ce more by Victor Gutierrez and Alberto Barroso who combined for 7 goals in the win.
