Jug beats Primorje in Regional league

All eyes were on Dubrovnik on Sunday in the 6th round of the Regional league as the title contenders Jug and Primorje squared off for the first time in the Regional league this season. Both teams, as planned, still unbeaten after the fifth round this match-up was for the top position in the league's rankings, despite Primorje having played one match less than their rivals. The fans at the Gruz pool in Dubrovnik witnessed a balanced first half where goals were exchanged but the home team still managed to lead 5-4 at half-time, turning around a 3-4 deficit in the second period. In the following term however the decision in this match-up looked to be made. Xavi Garcia, a standout for Jug playing his former team, opened the score in the second half and saw teammate Marko Ivankovic netting 2 consecutive shots later in the period as Jug opened up a 8-5 lead. Primorje's top scorer Nikola Dedovic did answer late in the quarter but Jug smelled blood and continued in the final quarter with three straight goals (Jokovic, Luka Loncar and Felipe Perrone) deciding the outcome with the score at 11-6 and 4 minutes remaining. Dedovic once more found the back of the net for his 4th of the night but Pavo Markovic and top scorer Garcia (3 goals) set the final score at 13-7 in a convincing performance by the Dubrovnik based squad. They remained perfect after 6 rounds and comfortably lead the league while Primorje dropped to 3rd place but still has to make up one match to both Jadran (2nd place) and Jug.

Jadran Herceg Novi meanwhile continue to do well and secured their 2nd place on the table by knocking off Mladost at home 11-9. A superior first half had the home side in the driver's seat at the main break, only allowing Mladost to trim the deficit to just two goals in the final quarter as the win was already sure. Radnicki surprised by holding Mornar to a 12-12 draw in Split on Sunday. In fact the home team had to score 5 goals in the final quarter to even get a point out of the close contest. POSK celebrated their first win as they defeated Vojvodina 13-6 at home.
