USA maintains world junior title

The USA women have repeated as world junior champions. In a repeat final of two years ago, also in Volos, the Americans defeated Spain 10-13 behind a strong performance in the second quarter, to retain the 20 & under age group world junior championship gold medal.This time however the world junior championships featured the pack of test ruled, imposted by FINA to check the results on the game. It meant six against six in the water and just eleven players per team. With more goals scored per game as one of the main results, the outcome of the championship was not changed with USA confirming its bright future in women's water polo by delivering another gold-medal winning junior team. The bronze medal was claimed by Russia who convicingly got past Canada 8-15 in the game for 3rd place. Home team Greece finished in 5th place topping Italy 12-7 while Hungary edged Brazil 11-10 to take 7th position. Most Valuable Player of the 11th World Women’s Junior Championship was Aria Fischer from USA. Τhe prize for the tournament best goalkeeper was won by her USA team-mate Amanda Longan. Highest goal-scorers of the tournament were Anastasia Simanovich from Russia and Eleftheria Plevritou from Greece scoring 29 goals.
