© Gertjan Kooij 10 Aug Slobodan Nikic wins 3rd world championship gold By: Tim Hartog National Teams, World Championships Serbia centre forward Slobodan Nikic on Saturday became the first player to have won three world championships gold medals after Serbia beat Croatia in the 2015 final 4-11 in Kazan. Nikic also was a part of the world title winning teams of Serbia and Montenegro in Montreal, in 2005, and of the Serbian squad in 2009 in Rome that took the gold medal. Furthermore the 2015 world championships joint 2nd scorer of the Serbian team (total 9 goals) is now the most decorated Serbian player and won all but the Olympic Games gold. Nikic started his international senior career by triumphing at the 2003 European championship with the team of Serbia and Montenegro beating Croatia after extra time, and also was part of the squad that settled for silver after the memorable loss to Hungary in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In 2005 Serbia and Montenegro defeated Hungary in the world championship final in Montreal for the gold. One year later, Serbia claimed its first price without Montenegro winning the European Championships in Belgrade, also claiming the World Cup and World League that year. Current Galatasaray player Nikic went on to win more World Leagues (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015), the 2010 World Cup, European Championships (2012, 2014), Mediterranean Games (2009), European Championships silver (2008), bronze (2010) and Olympic Games bronze (2012).
