San Giljan leads Premier Division after Neptunes-Sliema draw

The Maltese Premier Division went into a round of top match-ups this Sunday with San Giljan emerging as winners confirming their top spot in the standings after a tough 8-7 win over Sirens. A big 3-0 run in the third quarter forced a decisive lead for the home team who in the final period, twice extended their lead to 2 goals, but twice saw Sirens pulling back to 1 as Csaba Kiss scored 2 of his 3 goals. But to no avail as San Giljan held on and lead the Division with a 2-point advantage over 2nd ranked Neptunes.
A thrilling back-and-forth encounter saw Neptunes coming back from trailing 3-6 at half-time as the two sides were tied at 7-7 going into the final period. Here John Soler put Sliema, with new head Dejan Milakovic on the bench for the first time, ahead but Neptunes responded by scoring twice as Neptunes led for the first time. It took time but Sliema's reaction came in their last attack as Kai Downing scored his 2nd to tie the game which would remain levelled in the final seconds. Neptunes ' Steven Camilleri took top scoring honours as he netted 4. In the third game on Sunday Exciles overcame a 3-goal deficit to claim their first win of the season and first points in the league. Marko Cuk emerged as game winner scoring the only goal of the final period.
