Russia storms into Baku 2015 final

Russia and Spain will play for the 2015 European Games gold medal and this year's European Junior championship. Spain held off Greece in a tense semifinal 9-6 while Russia overpowered Italy 17-7 to storm into the final. The Russian ladies raced to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back in the strikingly one-sided semifinal. The final match of the Thursday in Baku saw Spain and Greece being more levelled. After a back-and-forth contest for 3 quarters it was Spain who took a decisive sprint in the final phase of the match. Consecutive goals by Alejandra Aznar (4 goals total) and Paula Crespi secured the 3-goal victory. The results set up a re-match of the Group B clash won by Russia on Sunday 12-8.

In other results on Thursday Great Britain secure an 11th place finish by beating Israel 10-5. Germany and Slovakia will play for 7th place after both having won their respective classification semifinals. Germany held off France 8-10 while Slovakia topped Serbia 6-10.
