Denes Varga, Jennifer Pareja Europe's players of the year

Both Barcelona 2013 World Championships' Most Valuable Players have won the 2013 LEN European Athlete of the Year award, as was announced Monday. The traditional election by European aquatics governing body LEN saw Hungarian Denes Varga receiving 36,1% of the votes, just in front of national teammate goalie Viktor Nagy (33,3%) while Jennifer Pareja from Spain dominated the women's section with 50,7%, also with a (national) teammate finishing second, goalkeeper Laura Ester with 35,2%. The award is the second straight for a Spanish women after Anni Espar won it in 2012 while Varga is the first Hungarian since Péter Biros in 2008 was elected Europe's best player. The LEN Awards will be presented to the winners at the nearest most prestigious events of the respective disciplines.
