Greece on top again - Istanbul day 7

Greece have retained the 17 & under women's European Junior Championships title in Istanbul, Turkey. After ending up victorious in Madrid, Spain in 2011 the Greek side, led by coach Georgios Morfesis, defeated Spain in the gold medal final on Sunday in a convincing performance. After leading 2-4 at half time Spain tried their best in the second half but simply could not force a comeback as Greece seemed to have an answer for all hard-fought goals the Spanish women managed to score in the third and final period. Greece consolidated the two-goal advantage in the third term and even won the final period 1-2 to confirm their victory and prospect. Medal day started with the home team finishing in 11th place falling 20-4 to Great Britain in the opening match on Sunday. Germany took 7th place in a striking low-scoring affair beating Ukraine 2-3. Hungary closed out their campaign in 5th place holding off Russia 13-12 despite a little comeback by the Russians in the final period. The first medal of the tournament was captured by The Netherlands who won the bronze finishing on top of Italy 10-6. Today's fixtures and results are as follows:
