Figlioli and Southern fastest shooters

During the group stage of the 2013 World Championships water polo here in Barcelona, Spain all shots of the players were measured from behind one of the goals as part of a study at the Portugese university Faculdade de Desporto da Universidade do Porto. Interesting results came out. The fastest shooters in the world turned out to be Italy's Pietro Figlioli who, at one point, fired off an incredible 86,9 km/h bomb. In the women's tournament it was Aussie Stingers' Ashleigh Southern who recorded the fastest shot of all. She leads the way with a 67,1 km/h attempt. Italy and Hungary hold the highest team averages at 80,3 km/h in the men's championship while the Netherlands are on top in the women's with an average shooting speed of 66,2 km/h.
