Shturm Ruza takes first step to LEN Trophy final

Russian title favorite Shturm 2002 Ruza has taken a big step towards the LEN Trophy final on Saturday. In the semis first meeting with fellow Russian competitor, Uralochka Zlatoust, Ekaterina Tankeeva and Iefke van Belkum led their team to a 9-15 away victory scoring five and four goals respectively. After a 2-1 opening quarter the visitors from the city of Ruza stormed back and were not be stopped in the remainder of the match. With a home game on March 23 this year's Russian cup winners Shturm 2002 Ruza are likely to be the first side to qualify for the final (April 10 and April 24). The second semi-final, played on Sunday, was better levelled. Izmailovo Moscow used a strong finish to outscore home side Widex GZC DONK by one goal: 15-16. A good position to be in for the Russian ladies as they still have a home game in the Russian capital in two weeks to decide the outcome of this two-game series in their favour. Veronika Troshkina and Oleksandra Karpovich scored four each for the Russian visitors. Sabrine van der Sloot was the game's top scorer with five for the home team.
