Pro Recco takes Super Cup

Italian powerhouse Pro Recco has won the European Super Cup beating Savona 7-14 on Wednesday. The game between last year's Champions League and Euro Cup winners was played in Savona and saw the home side not being able to win the cup for the second straight season. Recco jumped out to an early 0-4 lead and comfortably led 2-8 at half time. That gab was even extended by the new-look squad in the second half as a nice 6 for 8 finish on extra man attacks helped the Italians to reach a clear 7-14 win to take the Super Cup, their fifth in team history as it was Recco who was victorious in Super Cup matches in 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2010 as well. Savona still looks for its first win. Pietro Figlioli was the game's top scorer as he converted two penalties for a total 4 goals while Matteo Aicardi, Stefano Luongo and Niccolo Figari each netted a pair for the reigning Italian national champion.
