Savona leads by five after game 1

Title-holder Rari Nantes Savona has taken a big step towards their second consecutive LEN Euro Cup win. In the finals game 1 on Wednesday the home team rolled to a convincing 14-9 win behind their offensive threat Valerio Rizzo. Rizzo, this season's Italian league second-highest goal scorer, was responsible for half of his team's goals giving Savona a comfortable position for the return, scheduled for May 3 in Spain. The Italians opened the game strongly leading 3-1 after the first quarter. In the following phase, Savona managed to walk away from the Spaniards for a clear 9-3 lead after the third period. Sabadell made a little comeback at the beginning of the fourth quarter to reduce the deficit to three (10-7) before Savona quickly responded restoring the bigger difference again. The current Spanish league leader now faces a difficult but not impossible task of making up a four-goal deficit in game 2 at home.
