Croatian teams start with win

The favorites in the Champions League quarterfinals all started with a victory on Wednesday, mostly at home. Only Italian national champion Pro Recco recorded a comfortable 5-13 away win at Budva, Montenegro, playing without key-players Maurizio Felugo, Boris Zlokovic and Aleksandar Ivovic who will play in the Italian league against Euro Cup finalist R.N. Savona on Friday. Mladost Zagreb started the series against Hungarian representative Szeged with a two-point victory 8-6 while Croatian national champs Jug will travel to Budapest, Hungary with a four-point difference in their favour after a 12-8 first leg win. The trio of Romanian high-scoring centre-forward Cosmin Radu, Macedonian international Boris Letica and Ante Vukicevic scored two goals each for Mladost. Joseph Kayes was the team high-scorer for Szeged netting two. Croatian shooting star Miho Boskovic came up short against his former team Jug with Vasas. Although scoring one goal, his side was never in front of the score and a game-high four goals from lefthander Maro Jokovic sealed the deal for Jug. Finally, Primorje Rijeka faced a difficult match against Jadran Herceg Novi but got away with the close 12-11 win which could mean a tense and exciting return in Montenegro on April 18. Veteran captain Samir Barac was the game's top scorer with three goals. Both Ivan Krizman and Vladimir Gojkovic netted four for Jadran.
