Hungary takes bronze medal

Hungary is the 2012 European championships bronze medal winner. The reigning Olympic champions defeated Italy 12-9 in the bronze medal match on Sunday in front of a 3.100 spectator sell-out Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim stadium. After a nervous start and 4-5 halftime score, Italy opened up a three-goal lead in the third quarter (8-5), before the Hungarians made a great comeback in the fourth quarter on a 5-goal run ending with a exclusion without substitution for a frustrated Pietro Figlioli who kicked centre-forward Adam Steinmetz with fourty seconds left in the game. Gergely Kiss converted the awarded penalty shot for a 9-12 final score.
