Close win for Serbia - Udovicic reaches 300

The first match of day 2 at the Samartzidis Cup tournament in Greece saw a competitive match between former teammates Serbia and Montenegro, won 7-6 by the reigning FINA World League title holder. Both teams will meet again in a big group B clash at the upcoming European Championships, to be played in Eindhoven, The Netherlands from 16 January. On Tuesday, Montenegro got up 4-3 at the end of the first half, but the Serbs turned things around in second gaining a 7-5 advantage four minutes before the end. The Montenegrins got back within one (7-6) by a Vladimir Gojkovic goal but Vanja Udovicic blocked Aleksandar Ivovic' shot that could have evened the score in the final phase so that Serbia got it's first win of the tournament after the 10-11 defeat against Spain on day 1. The match marked a special milestone, set by Vanja Udovicic who scored his 300th international goal, the first Serb to do so. A strong Spain team collected their second win in two matches later the evening beating the home team Greece 10-9.
